I use natural renewable materials for my rope baskets and silk scarves with inspiration coming from the materials and the natural world.
My basketry work involves using traditional basketry techniques with the structures reflecting the materiality of the fibres used being mostly jute, Manila hemp, flax, sisal, cotton and Norfolk reed. Hand weaving, twining, binding and coiling are the methods I use to create the baskets which evolve slowly as the work progresses, sometimes taking an alternative route to the one initially envisaged. Some of my coiled designs are now available as kits or patterns.
I have painted on silk for many years and the exuberance of colour and the beautiful feel of natural silk never tires. I use water based paints and dyes, batik wax resist and overdyeing to achieve the finished result.
I am a member of the Norfolk Contemporary Craft Society and a licentiate member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
